Who doesn't like a bit of David Bowie now and then?
I love the term "birthday girl", perhaps because it is appropriate to use in relation to myself only one time a year, and that's what makes it special, but in contrast to that, I am not a huge fan of my own birthdays, I feel that much like with the new year, there's a lot of (mainly self inflicted) pressure to draw a line, recap all that's been done or not and make a resolution of some sort. For this year, I thought of maybe doing "a dress a day" month for my birthday month (yes, I am claiming a whole month), to try and give the dresses in my wardrobe some time in the world - there are a few that have been either never worn or worn once in the past 3 years, and even the "most loved" only get to see daylight 2-3 times a year. Now, much like my yoga resolution, this might not happen in its entirety, but I shall put myself at ease with my favourite phrase, "better than nothing", which became part of my vocabulary in early 2013 and it has helped see the bright side of many situations ever since.
My birthday present to myself will be coming in early April, as it needs to travel from across the globe to get to me - I shall not say what it is, so that I don't spoil the surprise, but may I take a minute to complain about how lots of brands do not bring to this corner of the world all their "latest launches" or "limited editions"? It might have something to do with the fact that our seasons are upside down (get it? I live in the southern hemisphere...) and that we are so far away from all the "fashion hubs", which I get, but it's still unpleasant to lust after something that you know you cannot have or have to jump through hoops to get it.
Enough said, I am going to crack open the bubbly, here's to many more birthdays for us all, may you be merry and cheerful for the rest of the year!
