Imagine that you work in an office and that part of your job is to meet with people, colleagues, suppliers, clients and give presentations. Imagine that after more than one such a meeting/presentation you have the embarrassing realisation that your lipstick had been smudged, faded or unglamourosly left on the coffee mug.
Now imagine that you are in your local drugstore, looking for something very practical, like kitchen towels or toothpaste - completely serious and focused, when all of a sudden, your eye is caught by a piece of beautifully coloured cardboard advertising a non transferable, completely smudge proof lip colour.
This happened to me. And I am only human, so I had to take a closer look. L'oreal Infallible Lip Colours, a 2 step liquid lip colour that promises to not budge for 24 hours. Now, I am not easily convinced by statements like that, I happen to actually read the fine print on contracts and labels and it usually goes along the lines of "test conducted on 12 women over 24 non-consecutive hours". The colours seem to be quite nice though, opaque and glossy, the packaging quite sleek so I decided that I would swatch them, check out the colour in day light and be on my way. So I did, I swept Permanent Blush, Constant Coral and Blossoming Berry on the back of my hand, with Blossoming Berry in my mind as my favourite.
I then proceeded to drive home and make dinner. I have a confession to make - I am a bit of a germaphobe so when I am in the kitchen, I wash my hands with soap on average of 10 times an hour (it is pretty similar in the morning, I usually wash my hands 10 to 15 times between the time I wake up and the time I leave for work) so between the hand washes, hand cream and hand sanitizer abuse that happens throughout the day, nothing really lasts on my hands. Except for these 3 specs of colour that made it through the evening shower as well. Completely baffled, I decided to leave them there until the next morning when I discovered - you might have guessed by now - they were still there! I must mention that they still felt completely dry to touch and no transfer had occurred on the linen. I had to give my hand a good scrub and a good 5 minutes wipe with an eye make up remover soaked cotton pad to be able to leave for work.
Needless to say I was convinced and purchased Blossoming Berry the next day. I will admit that it is a bit less hard core on your lips - due to the fact that the other end is a balm that helps your lips stay soft, and I found that it tends to transfer a bit on my coffee mug because of this balm, but it did none the less resisted heroically through a not so careful eaten lunch and my usual 1,5 litres of water that I drink at the office and took some scrubbing to remove in the evening.
This is most definitely the longest wearing lip colour out there and I already have Red Infallible on my wish list.
