I am not big on making new year resolutions, I feel like it sets me up for failing, since I usually forget half way through the year what that resolution was. For 2013 it was to do some kind of exercise for 30 minutes every day and even though it was probably one of the most active years (in terms of working out) in a long time, I did have long periods during which I didn't do any kind of exercising, so I am not very happy about that.
This year, I have decided that I need to be a little more focused on myself and in general, it seems that I tend to get easily distracted and I would like to work on rectifying that. To do that, I have set two goals, both doable, both quite hard and requiring dedication, both yoga related: being able to do 108 sun salutations in one session and practicing sun salutations every day. I discovered yoga at a time when I was dealing with upper back pain (related to stress, bad posture and lack of muscle strength in that area) and realised that it helps me a lot, both phisically and mentally, and even though I do not regularly go to a yoga studio, I enjoy practicing at home. I have decided that sticking to a fairly easy and simple succesion of poses will help me develop a routine and allow me to focus on the breathing (something I struggle with) instead of what pose will be next.
I have decided to not wait for 2014, so I started with a practice on the 31st December. I think that achieveing either one of the goals will be satisfying enough, so I am not putting too much pressure on myself, even though to be honest, I would love to be able to say that I have done both this time next year.
So here's to a new year filled with achieved goals and well-being! Welcome, 2014, let's do this!
