It's not easy to feel Christmasy when it's 30 degrees outside and all you want to do is lay on the beach, not when you grew up with snowy holidays, snow fights, and one of the most amazing feelings in the whole world - being the first to make shoe marks in the snow covered park (a feeling that rivals running through the autumn leaves at night in the empty park). But I am getting quite excited about Christmas carols in the botanical garden, about planning the picnic food and drinking wine underneath the stars.
On the picnic menu:
- Smoked salmon pate (recipe here)
- Chicken liver pate (check out the recipe here)
- Caprese skewers
- Celery sticks, baby carrots, sliced mixed peppers
- Mini brownie muffins (check out the recipe here and simply scoop the mixture in a muffin pan instead of the tray)
The idea is to keep it healthy and low calorie and leave room for desert and wine, as it seems that we tend to overeat during outings like this and I have vouched to not get any chips, snacks or other MSG riddled temptations; this is a time to feel good, not fat.
