I quite seldom try out a foundation before I buy it - I know it's frowned upon, but I have been quite lucky and only regretted my purchase 3 times so far, once because of the packaging, once because of the formula and only once because of the colour.
This one is no exception. I went to the Bobbi Brown counter to repurchase my precious corrector but it was out of stock, so instead of going to the office, I got distracted looking at the foundations. I have to admit, I had read some reviews about their Long Wear foundation earlier that day and I was also looking for something that would last a bit longer than usual.
The reviews were not that good, but what baffled me was how many people complained about the lavender oil contained in the formula after reading that it can be a skin irritant. To emphasize, not that it had actually irritated their skin, but that they read that it could be an irritant. I guess this is one of those cases when the internet and the fact that there is so much information available out there is not a good thing. I wonder if anyone knows anything else about lavender essential oil, things like the fact that is soothing on the nerves, it has anti-fungal properties and helps fight depression. So maybe that is another reason that you start feeling good after you put this foundation on? I for one LOVE lavender and I have been enjoying the slight smell and don't find it irritating in the least.
At the counter, the sales assistant offered to try the foundation on me, something I honestly do not like, as they always seem to stand a bit too close to me. Funny enough, all my experiences at the Bobbi Brown counter were delightful, and when the colour Warm Beige was applied on my skin, I have to say I was amazed by how natural it looked; I was in my lunch break and didn't have a lot of time, so I grabbed it straight away. I did feel a bit nervous afterwards and I kept thinking about returning it, but after seeing how natural it looked even after finishing work and a gym session, I was convinced I wanted keep it.
It's been a couple of weeks since then and I have only been using this foundation, the colour is perfect, it blends effortlessly, the finish is natural and the lasting power is almost what I was looking for - not quite up there with Dior Forever, which just does not move, but good enough to impress me. To put things in perspective, the past 10 days were spent moving boxes and cleaning and the weather has not been too kind, it's been hot and humid. I do feel like I should warn you - it does not sit well on top of my gel formula moisturizers, but so far it's the only flaw I could find, and even this is not much of a flaw. I had so many compliments on how my skin looks, that Bobbi Brown is becoming fast one of my favourite brands.
Next up? I have a pre-birthday make up lesson set up at their counter and I keep making notes of products that I want to try. A shimmer brick maybe?
