There are moments in life when you are suddenly reminded that you are not the centre of the universe. Sometimes these moments come with feelings of sadness and regret, but the best ones are those that make you feel like not everything is messed up and there's still a chance for things to turn around.
Animals make me feel that way, especially wild animals, they make me realise that there's a whole world outside that we forget and ignore. I get so caught up in my own head, in my own thoughts, in the city life, that whenever I am presented with the magnificence that is nature, I am taken by surprise and I feel small. Not small as in insignificant, but small as in part of something bigger.
The first lion I've ever seen was at a poorely maintained zoo, 10 000km away from his natural habitat. This photo was taken moments before the lion walked up closer to the herd of wildebeests that was near by, scouting it for his next meal - his equivalent of reading the dinner menu. I've come a far way to find home.
